If you are one of the few users who have upgraded to Windows 10 but want to go back to your previous version of Windows because your hardware device is not supported, your mission critical application will not work in Windows 10 or you just do not like the look and feel of new Operating System.
Microsoft has a feature which will allow you to go back to your previous version of Windows. Don’t worry you will still have one year window to upgrade to Windows 10 free of cost.
You can go back to previous version of Windows if:
- You upgraded to Windows 10 from a previous version of Windows and it’s not been more than 30 days since you upgraded. Microsoft only allows rollback to previous version of Windows within 30 days of upgrade.
- The old Windows folders is still available i.e. C:\Windows.old
- You haven’t done a post upgrade clean install.
How To Go Back to Windows 7 or 8 from Windows 10:
- Delete all user accounts you created after you upgraded to Windows 10.
- Open the Settings app, and click on the Update & security option.
- From the options on the left hand side, click on Recovery.
- In the right side panel click on the Get started button underneath Go back to Windows x where x will be 7,8 or 8.1.
- Fill the form with reason for rollback o previous version and press Next button to proceed.
- Windows 10 will prompt you to stay and not go back, keep pressing Next to continue uninstall and go back your previous version of Windows.
- The uninstall process may take upto an hour or longer depending on your system. Once you are back in your old Operating System, you will need to reinstall all your previous apps and software once again.
The easiest thing to do is just create a system image of windows 7/8. Then when you realise how garbage Windows 10 is (as I did), you can just restore your system image without all that messing around.
