Windows 10 Tutorial: Single-Click Or Double-Click To Open Items

Single-tap or double-tap, too. Although majority of Windows users have settled with the double-click way of opening programs and files, Microsoft still also provides a way to get this done via a single-click.

And now with the focus on touch-based inputs, the single click or tap option makes sense for many.

Changing things around is simple enough, just like in previous versions of the operating system.

However, before we get to that, a quick primer, on the differences between the single-click or double-click ways of doing things.

The single-click option allows you to open items like files and folders with a single tap or left click of the mouse, while the items can be selected by hovering the pointer over them. Single-click also allows you to select the underline icon titles consistent with your browser option.

The double-click option, on the other hand, allows the opening of items with clicking the item with the left mouse button twice to open, or a single click to select items.

With the refresher done, let’s get down to changing things around.

Open File Explorer, and go to Options from the View menu or the ribbon.

In the General tab, go to the Click items as follows section to make your selection of either single-click to open them or double-click.

Click or tap on OK to finalize your selection.
