There were plenty of crowds outside Microsoft’s New York store as it opened on Fifth Avenue today.
Taking cues from the not-too-far-away Apple Store, there’s an clear glass front, lots of space round each table for shoppers to peer at the latest gadgets, including a HoloLens.
There’s also an Answer Desk to help users with queries and technical problems. but the focus is on the technology and Windows 10 that Microsoft can sell to New Yorkers.
Microsoft’s own touch comes in the form of a colorful Windows flag, even if the matching staff do look like a Wiggles tribute act or a Pantone Star Trek convention.
Spread over five floors, there is plenty of space for customers to find out about Surface Book and Surface Pro 4, plus many of Microsoft’s less costly products.
The opening also coincides with the launch of Halo 5 Guardians on Xbox One, giving younger shoppers something to queue for with limited edition consoles, controllers and game bundles available.
A live launch event will take place in Microsoft stores and online later today. With concert tickets, Xboxes and other prizes up for visitors, the store should certainly see a brisk opening.
