AV-TEST is here with rather comprehensive test, an endurance test actually, over a 12-month period, in order to determine the best malware removal solutions for Windows 10.
This involved no less than 897 individual evaluations for each product.
A total of 8 security suites and 7 special tools and boot CDs for recovery were put under the microscope in the test, with some of the biggest names in security.
According to the security research institute, the study focused on two different stages. First off, all tools were installed on a system that was already affected. And then they were evaluated on systems already protected but disabled temporarily in order to allow for the malware infection to occur.
As it stands, four programs managed to remove all malware samples in the tests, and they did so without impacted in any way by the infection. These were Avira Antivirus Pro, Kaspersky Internet Security 2016/2017, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Avast! Free Antivirus 2016.
Avira topped the charts because it removed all malware samples and cleaned the registry, while the other three failed to detect malware in one or two cases.
And talking about recovery tools, only Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool was able to detect all malware samples and remove the infections.
Others either failed here, or outright did not spot the malware at all.
Again, it is worth noting that these are endurance tests performed to determine the best security product for removing the malware that exists on a computer, not necessarily to prevent infection in the first place.
But these rankings should definitely come in handy in the constantly evolving computing security space.
