Spending copious amounts of time behind the PC usually leads to eye strain, particularly during the evening hours. This can even deteriorate into some benign pain and watering of the eyes.
The phenomenon is usually attributed to the Blue light that is usually emitted by the screen flare from PCs and Tablets. The blue light leads to the suppression of a hormone called Melatonin which is responsible for inducing sleep. It can further cause eye irritation and sometimes tears dripping involuntarily from the eyes.
Microsoft Blue Light filter became available since the Creators Update (Build 15002) that became active in 2016. This feature adjusts the color temperature to reduce the blue light emission in your computer. Its main goal is to reduce eye strain and headaches that result from long exposure to screens.
Later Microsoft 10 versions call this feature “Night Light” and is accessible from the “Settings” app or “Action Center”.
Let’s see how you can set blue light filter for Windows 10.
How to Turn on Blue Light Filter in Windows 10
Step 1: Press the Windows Key + I simultaneously to launch ‘Windows Settings‘.
Step 2: Next proceed and click on the ‘System‘ option as shown.
Step 3: On the left sidebar, click on the ‘Display‘ option and locate the ‘night light‘ option under the ‘Color’ section as shown.
Step 4: Next, Turn on the Night light toggle as shown.
Step 5: You can also set the hours the night light will kick in by clicking on the ‘Night light settings‘ immediately below the toggle. This opens the settings as you can see below and gives you the ability to schedule night light hours as shown.
Additionally, you can move the slider back and forth to adjust the intensity of the blue light filter. Moving the slider further to the right adds a slight hue to the screen that reduces the light intensity. For best use, it’s recommended to maintain the slider at the 50% mark.
Click on ‘Set hours‘ to custom or schedule the night light hours. As you do so, keep in mind that you’ll have to enable the location to complete the setup.
Having turned on the Blue light filter, you should have an easier time getting a good night’s sleep and the eye strain and sensitivity will be a thing of the past. The blue light filter helps alleviate the intensity of blue light emitted by PCs or tablets which suppresses melatonin which is a hormone that enables you to fall asleep.
