If you’re using an SSD and it has Trim enabled, then the chances are that you won’t be able to restore your deleted data.
That’s because most SSDs are designed to completely remove deleted files for the sake of performance and longevity. HDDs are mechanical and don’t work in the same way, which is why they don’t need to do that.
To learn if your SSD uses Trim or not, open your Windows command prompt and type “fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify“.
If you get the above result, your SSD uses Trim, and you most likely won’t be able to restore deleted data.
If you get a “1” instead of “0” as a result of the query, then your drive doesn’t use Trim, and you should be able to restore data from it.
Other than the above Trim check, your drive must be working. You’ll need the help of a technician to restore data from a damaged disk. You’ll spend quite a bit of money for the service.
Now it’s time to look at some of the best data recovery software.

EaseUS is one of the Best Data Recovery Software Programs, that offers one free and one paid version along with a bootable media option if you’re willing to spend the extra pennies.
The difference between the two versions is that the free one only allows you to restore 2 gigabytes of data while the premium choice doesn’t limit you to any restrictions.
Let’s not forget to mention that the premium choice also offers a free trial. Of course, you’ll be getting premium technical support if you decide to pay, and there’s no subscription to worry about. You only pay once for your lifetime license.
The features offered don’t differ significantly from Recuva. You can still recover numerous types of files: from documents to music and videos.
Some of you may appreciate the premium bootable media in the case that you render your OS unusable as well.

If you’d rather go wide in terms of features, then Stellar Phoenix is one of your best bets. It offers a comprehensive set of options, including support for multiple file systems, storage devices, and recovery of nearly 300 file types, including Outlook emails.
Another great feature is the ability to save and resume a scan, which comes in handy for large partitions, and doesn’t force you to sit and wait for the process to complete. Simply save the scan progress and resume whenever you want.
The interface of the program is clean and clear, perhaps the best in this list, with all the features neatly laid out. Good support is also on offer, with knowledge base articles, email, chat, and phone. Though one downside is that the app does not always assign the original filenames to the data it finds.

Recuva from CCleaner is by far the most widely used program on this list. It offers both a free version and a pro/paid one.
The difference between them is that the pro version also supports virtual hard drives, offers automatic updates, and premium support.
As for features, it can, of course, restore all types of files, completely erase files from your drive so that nobody will ever be able to see them and restore data from damaged disks.
As mentioned above, it’s not possible to restore files from a damaged drive though.
The Recuva recovery service refers to partially damaged files where you can still read data from them.

Things get a lot more serious when you want to resurrect data from dead hard drives. In these cases, dedicated programs like DMDE are what you need. Its interface may be intimidating for most of you, but the program is unmatched when it comes to the success rate.
The program is capable of recovering data from a range of drive types. You start by select a drive, and the software then identifies all mountable partitions, highlighting the most obvious choices. You are then shown a File Explorer type view to browse and recover whatever data you need from the drive.
And although the UI is clean and familiar, you may be fazed by the number of options you get. The free version of DMDE has certain restrictions on the way you can recover data, but at least there are no limits to how much you can recover. Highly recommended.

Another excellent program on the list is iBoysoft Data Recovery. It provides an easy and quick way to recover critical documents, photos, videos, music, etc. deleted/lost from NTFS, exFAT, and FAT drives
iBoysoft can recover deleted files from the recycle bin too. If your hard drive is inaccessible, you can recover its data using iBoysoft recovery. If you have lost the important files from your phone, SD card or other external devices, you can recover them easily using it.
The program is remarkably good at finding files. It has a clear and straightforward UI. Just launch the application and you will able to use it easily.

Few developers can cook up as good a user interface as their application. The developers of PC Inspector File Recover, apparently can’t. This is a program that could use a good UI polish. But if the design does not put you off, there is some power on offer here.
It’s not a terribly well-designed program, though, and the workflow is fairly confusing, even for advanced users. But PC Inspector File Recovery is an application that works great when it does. Better yet, this tool finds almost all files that are recoverable.
This is a program that goes further than many of the tools listed here, in that it has the ability to detect partitions that have been lost — even with a damaged or deleted boot sector or file system. This makes it a real lifesaver in emergencies when Windows is not showing your drive, for one reason or another.

IObit is a known name in the world of utility software, with programs that have clear, intuitive user interfaces and are rich in features. Undelete carries this tradition forward, offering a refreshingly easy to use UI that makes recovering files a seamless process.
Simply select the type of files you are looking for and the drive where they were stored and start a scan. The program quickly displays the files, along with their chances of recoverability. You can also preview files by hovering your mouse and restoring them is as simple as selecting where to save.
That said, a deep scan option would have been welcome here. IObit Undelete is quick and easy to use, but it does not offer as much control as other programs like Recuva, for instance. Still, an ideal program to quickly recover something important that you may have just lost.

Don’t get confused. This program is not mainly for Seagate products; it should be compatible with all hard drives.
It only offers two premium versions with free trials. So, no free version whatsoever for this one.
The first option released for consumers and the second one for technicians. There are only two differences between them. First, you can install the technician version on five computers. Second, you can also erase data with it.
As for features, Seagate allows you to restore an incredible amount of file types. To be honest, I did not recognize 70% of them.

Acronis offers numerous products, and their data recovery solution is only one of them. Do keep in mind that product integration is not exactly their strong point though.
Once again, there’s no free option available. There’s a “demo” as people call it, but that’s all.
The demo only allows you to access your deleted files and see the chances of restoring them with the full version.

While not as famous and widely used as its competitors, Disk Drill still deserves a place among the best data recovery software programs.
It offers both a free version and a premium one. The difference between both versions is that the free version will limit you to restoring only 500 megabytes of data.
Disk Drill generally feels very easy to use and offers support for all types of file systems, such as EXT, FAT 32, and more.
